Meet: Alex Blocker

Me: How long have you been making music? What inspired you at the very beginning?

Alex: Taking violin lessons as a kid, and then meeting kids in school who were making beats. Trying to unite the two worlds

Has your style changed & evolved since then? And how would you describe it overall?

My sound is like water, it comes in many forms. My sound evolves on a daily basis. My next single is Folk/Country. If we had to categorize I would put myself in the alternative RnB category.

Nice! And is your stage name the same as your real name? And has it ever been something different?

It's my real name. Never changed my stage name

Do you remember the first song you've ever made? What was that one like compared to new releases like “I Like It”?

My first song was called “39 at nite”. It’s about the neighborhood in Chicago in which I was raised. It has been years since I heard it. My style hasn't changed much since my first song, but it is more refined.

Awesome to hear that! Who are some of your favorite artists to work with right now?

Currently, my favorite artists to work with are Eric Luba and Zoe Moff

And when you’re working on your music, what does the perfect studio/recording session look like for you?

My perfect session has no time limit, a patient engineer, and is in a neighborhood where can have a good time after the session.

Do you have any other talents & hobbies outside of music that most people aren’t aware of?

My perfect session has no time limit, a patient engineer, and is in a neighborhood where can have a good time after the session.

Excellent! Now I know the life of a musician isn’t always easy. What's been the most difficult part of your journey in music?

Trusting that the divine entities have a plan for my journey, even when I can't see it. Learning to trust yourself is one of the most important skills an artist can develop. As an artist, you encounter so many people who talk as if they understand the industry and they know what's best for you. Most times they don't know a damn thing.

Is there any advice you would give to someone considering getting into music?

My advice is to always create and perform what you feel in your heart and hear in your head. Never create with money, fame, or popularity in mind.

And finally, do you have any upcoming releases or plans for your career that you're comfortable sharing with the readers?

My next single is called “Promises” and it's going to cause a beautiful commotion in pop/folk music. I am hard at work on my next project. It's been over 2 years since I released an album, and this next one is going to be my best work.
