What Would Mackin’ Do - ChaunSAY Mackin’

Intro:

Today’s post features the Buffalo, New York artist ChaunSAY Mackin’. He’s very proud of is hometown, and has been rapping since as early as 2013. The Buffalo rap scene has been growing recently, so it may be time for ChaunSAY to shine very soon. EVERYTHING GAWD LEVEL 2 is his first release of 2021. Here today, we’ll be reviewing his single from this phenomenal tape “What Would Mackin’ Do”.

Summary:

You can hear his New York/East Coast sound immediately in his flow & delivery. Every word he raps can be heard clearly & gives the right amount of spacing between lines. He really brings back that old school Pro Era-style of rap, but added with his own unique touches & playful vocal delivery. I love how smooth the singing vocals are on the chorus (which is also really catchy & replay-able). Lyrically, he has a natural talent & great rhyme schemes. There’s good wordplay that involves plenty of unique words.

Thematically, the song features ChaunSAY reminiscing on his childhood a lot. Along with this are updates on his current life & pleasures: sex, drugs & money (although it’s expressed in a tasteful/self aware way). He’s came a long way from being at the bottom, and makes sure to boast about is impressive rap skills. Production wise, the beat is more of a traditional Lofi sample-based style; with East Coast elements & nice stings/horns. The drums here have a nice groove alongside plenty of subtle percussion elements.

Overall:

This is actually one of the best songs I’ve ever reviewed on the website. There’s not really much I could critique or complain about it, and the quality is hard to deny. I am sure ChaunSAY has a bright & successful future ahead of him. He’s another up & coming to watch hailing from the Buffalo, NY area.
