Today’s post features the Florida singer-songwriter Marlounsly. This is her second time being featured on our platforms, after her previous single I Am was released. Marlounsly has opened up for acts such as Ella Mai, H.E.R and Summer Walker at major music festivals and tours. This new retro-funk single was produced by N-Soul. Let’s see what Marlounsly has in store for us today.
Summary:
While gliding across each pattern of the beat, she is speaking to/about a significant other. The person of interest seems to be someone Marlounsly is deeply attracted to & infatuated with. She lays down some very blunt, steamy & vulgar lyrics. The lines are also very clear for listeners to visualize/imagine themselves. However, this is done a lot more tastefully than other writers & feels more like an expression of a passionate emotion/feeling:
“Gotta free this energy in my heart”
At times her delivery reminds me of singers like Ari Lennox & SZA. This is by no means distracting or a negative takeaway, as Marlounsly’s voice is unique enough to itself that these comparisons are very loose in the grand scale. Her light & seductive voice works well alongside the sexy subject matter & throwback aesthetic. On another note, I’ve actually recently learned that she freestyles almost all of her lyrics. This is impressive because her songs end up sounding very cohesive at the final result. The way her voices layer on top of each other without clashing is yet another highlight from her performance.
The elements of retro funk are hard to ignore. If you’re into older R&B songs from the 80’s/90’s, this song is definitely right up your alley. The beat features a retro synth bass that plays throughout the song, and the drum patterns sound very authentic & 90’s reminiscent. Along with the synths drums, the chords backing the majority of the instrumental’s sounds are bright & beautiful.
Overall:
Marlounsly has delivered another potential R&B hit for the season. Everyone has/had someone in their life that has brought out these kinds of intimate thoughts/feelings before. Hopefully, She pairs her stunning looks with this gorgeous new record for Senseless video. It was a delight listening to & reviewing her new single.
