Me: What was the creative process like at the time? How’d you get inspired?
Tino: The current political climate which aims to segregate instead of unite was the inspiration behind this song. Stories of police brutality, Asian hate, violence, and school shootings have been on the rise and children need to be taught to love instead of hate.
Did you draw inspiration from any specific artists for “Hold My Hand”?
Nas is my favourite artist and he motivates me every time. I also draw inspiration from Common and Fabolous as well.
How would you describe your current style of music today?
My current style of music is motivational/conscious rap. I also do gospel /uplifting rap songs and all these genres seem to have merged into one over time as seen in my lyrics.
What themes or messages do you hope listeners take away from this new release?
This song is written from the point of view of the children. The plea to make the world a better place for every boy and girl can be heard throughout the song. Hold My Hand is my way of telling adults to come together and guide the younger generation to the right path.
That’s extremely inspiring! And what was the most challenging part of creating Hold My Hand?
Teaching the kids the song. Getting all of the kids together in one room was a bit challenging. But they loved it and had fun in the process.
And how did you come up with your current stage name? Have you ever changed it in the past?
Tino is from my name Martin. My family and friends call me Tino as a shortened version. Sage means wise. I intentionally try to spit wisdom and common sense in my lyrics.
Additionally, do you have any upcoming releases or future plans that you're comfortable sharing with the readers?
I intend to drop singles every month and hopefully an album by December.
Finally, what message or feeling do you hope listeners take away from this song?
I hope anyone who listens to this song is inspired to be a better version of themselves and help make the world a better place for children of all races.
