Meet: Saneit
Me: How did you initially start getting into music & the industry?
Saneit: I have always loved music since I was a kid. I grew up singing in the choir at church and further developed my musical talents through extra curricular activities. I attended a performing arts high school and began my independent music career at 17. I’ve been consistently releasing my own music since 2015.
How would you describe your style of music that you’ve developed over the years?
I would describe my style as traditional R&B. It has definitely evolved overtime due to maturity and life lessons.
That’s exciting! And how did you come up with your stage name for music?
My stage name is my real name. I used to go by Saneit Monae, which is my first and middle name. At some point, in college, I dropped the middle name because my name is so unique that it can carry itself. No middle name is necessary. Some people still call me by my middle name, but that just lets me know they have been supporting me from the beginning.
Who are some of your favorite engineers & producers to work with? I know Chicago is full of so many talented people.
My favorite producers and engineers to work with are Spunk, Trayne, Ricosuparich, J Classic, and AllDay.
Are there any other musicians you would like to work with from your area too?
Other artists that I would like to work with from Chicago are Kia Harper, Sherrion, Dej Monae, Jaas, Face. Those are just the ladies.
What does a perfect studio or recording session look like in your imagination?
A perfect studio session has good energy, the best engineer, food, water, hot tea, and tequila lol.
Can’t go wrong with some tequila at the studio haha! What's been the most difficult part of your journey in music?
The most difficult part of the music journey is staying encouraged. There are definitely times where I want to throw in the towel, but I keep going no matter what. I feel like I’ve come to far to give up and I’m closer than I think.
Do you remember the first song you've ever made? If so, how does it compare to your new material?
The first song I ever made and recorded was at 15 and it is so different from my latest work. I was definitely finding my voice then. I would probably cringe if I heard it now.
What's your favorite song that you've made so far in your career?
My favorite song that I’ve made in my career is “Give Love To Me”.
What are some other talents & hobbies outside of music that some may not know about you?
Outside of music, I am a Braider, I work for myself. I go by ‘It’s Mrs Do It All.’ I have clients in Chicago, DC, LA, and Atlanta. A talent that some may not know is that I draw and paint.
Any future plans for your career? Additionally, who is an artist/producer you dream of collaborating with?
In the future I see myself performing at more festivals. My goal is to hit stages in different cities. A producer that I dream of collaborating with is Missy Elliot.
I think you & Missy would make some magic! Is there any advice you would give to someone else who is thinking about getting into music?
The advice that I would give someone getting into music is to trust yourself. You only get better the more that you create. You won’t be perfect the first time.
