Everything Ken X is a rising artist born & raised in the wonderful home of Wilmington, NC. For those unfamiliar, Wilmington is an environment that’s very laidback in nature & welcome to all walks of life. His hometown plays a big role in who Ken is today & the unique style of music he continues to deliver. I was fortunate enough to hear his upcoming single “Now or Never” early, and it’s a real treat for the fans! The mixing is phenomenal & Ken’s performance is extremely hard hitting. Meet: Everything Ken X
Me: To get started, how did you first start getting into making music early on?
Ken: My mother is the one who got me into music. I have spent countless hours in the studio watching her record music in the studio. I always looked up to her for pursuing her dreams and naturally I gravitated to the lifestyle.
That’s a beautiful story & it always helps to come from a music background. What inspired the very unique stage name of yours?
My name originates from a few different things. Back when I started my music career, Gen X was a chemical found in our local drinking water. The X was inspired by Malcom X. Lastly, I believe that everything connects so I chose the name Ken X as a bit of play on words.
I like that a lot! In your own words, how would you describe your style of music for new listeners?
I would describe my music as psychedelic, experimental and uplifting. My art is about bringing my inner self into reality as close as possible. My music was more ego centric when I first started but now I feel like my art needs purpose.
Who are some of your favorite artists & producers to work with so far?
My two favorite artists to work with so far is Jreese and Shaun Token. They are complete experts in their craft. JReese has the most extensive knowledge of anyone in sound engineering. Shaun Token is by far the best guitarist is the area and he is very diverse in his play style.
Awesome! And, do you remember the first song you've ever made? How does it compare to the music you make now?
I do remember the first song I made and it is the most embarrassing piece of work that anyone could make. I recorded it through a head phone on an old Dell desktop using movie maker. I'm sure you could only imagine how that turned out.
Ideally, what does the perfect studio session look like to you?
There is no ideal situation to record for me. It is my job and requires hard work and lots of time and focus. What I would like is not possible. I would love for studio sessions to only take 5 minutes. But it takes hours and even days at times.
That’s so real! It definitely is still a job at the end of the day. What has been the most difficult part of your career so far?
The most difficult part of my artist journey was finding my own identity and sound. The second hardest was finding my soul purpose for making art.
Is there any advice you would give to someone else considering getting into music?
My advice would be to make music for yourself. Art is a reflection of your spirit so make what your soul feels. The key is to feel and not think. All communication is emotion.
That’s a great piece of advice! Additionally, are there another hobbies or talents may not know about you?
A lot of people don't know that I have a talent for sales. I started off in the jewelry industry and now look at every day as an opportunity to make some type of sale in life. Another talent is that I play the drums. I've had sticks in my hands for over 20 years.
Nice! And last, do you & your team have any upcoming plans you’re working on besides the new single release?
We plan to drop consistent music and we are also working on a film to puzzle the story together. We also plan to travel to Jakarta and Helsinki next summer.
Great to hear that! It’s very inspiring seeing other people work so hard & live their dreams. Any final words for our audience?
Right now my full attention is on 'Now or Never' and connecting with the fans.
