Top 5 Best Drake & Future Collaborations

Intro:

While they seemed like an odd pairing at the time, the duo of Drake & Future solidified both their professional & personal friendship in 2015. Their collab album What A Time To Be Alive was released that year to massive love & praise from fans of both rappers. They have a few songs together from before this album & many songs together that have been released since that golden year. With so many collaborations of theirs out in the world, one might wonder what the bests songs are that Future & Drake have done together. Take a look at our Top 5 favorites down below:

Honorable Mentions: I really wanted to include Blue Tint, but Future’s contribution felt too minimal to include on this list.

5. Digital Dash

The intro track from their collab album What A Time To Be Alive. Digital Dash is a synth-heavy trap banger that is predominately dominated by Future’s performance. Drake still does his thing & maintains a great job at being a complimentary piece. It perfectly sets the tone & expectations for the album as the first track. The flow both artists use is very catchy as well, but Metro & Southside’s beat is probably the highlight of the record. It’s hard to not get nostalgic & reminisce on the great year that 2015 was for both artists.

4. Live From The Gutter

One of the grimiest songs these two have made together so far. I think Live From The Gutter is great because it genuinely feels like we hear these two rich celebrities reporting live from the trenches. While obviously that probably wasn’t the setting they made the song in, I think a lot of this aesthetic comes from the beat’s banging drums & descending piano keys. It’s very dark, and the duo matches this energy with their lavishly ruthless lyrics. Their performances are pretty close in terms of quality, but I think Drake has the better verse due to how smoothly he comes onto the track without sacrificing the overall energy.

3. Where Ya At

While it’s not Drake & Future’s biggest collab anymore, Where Ya At was a very impactful record for both of their careers. The instrumental on this one is very hypnotic & trance-inducing while still being club-friendly. The flow both rappers use is very catchy despite the obvious repetition. The repetitive flow & “where yo ass was at” phrase actually helps the song be easier/more fun to rap. Additionally, the sentiment & message of the song is extremely relatable even if you can’t identify to the specifics of what they’re saying.

2. Used To This

Used To This is an infectious anthem that can make any listener feel on top of the world. Future & Drake reminisce on where they were in the past, and how they’re used to the current success/status they’ve earned. The Zaytoven-produced beat features beautiful pianos & the drums featured here are extremely bouncy. The previous songs may have better verses from a technical perspective, but this feels more like a complete song than the others. The music video below carries the same feel-good energy of the song as well:

1. Wait For U

The most recently recorded/released song from these two icons. This is the only R&B cut appearing on the list, and it features lovely vocals from the rising African artist Tems. Her vocals mesh beautifully with Future & Drake’s pleasant melodic performances on WAIT FOR U. Topically, the two rappers touch on problematic/toxic/former relationships with women in their lives. The drums on the beat are punchy & cut through the gorgeous instrumentation in the mix. It’s objectively a solid song all around & the best these two have produced together over the past decade.

Overall:

Do you agree with our top 5 Drake & Future collaborations? Our list is purely subjective, but we can see how some of these picks could potentially be controversial. I find it interesting how 2 completely different types of artists have developed such great chemistry with each other over time. With that said, one must wonder if we’ll ever get a sequel to their album What A Time To Be Alive. Thank you all for reading, and hopefully, the two have another collab album in the future before they retire.
