Suite EFX - Toy Taha

Intro:

Today’s post features the Philadephia, PA singer & songwriter Toy Taha. This single “Suite EFX” serves as the lead single to her upcoming EP. Some of her musical influences include legendary talent such as Michael & Janet Jackson, Prince, Beyoncé, Aretha Franklin & Jill Scott. It makes sense once you hear this Dreamlife-produced record. Let’s investigate what Toy Taha has to offer R&B.

Summary:

First, the intro of the song comes in very dreamy & perfectly sets the tone for the rest of your listening experience. Taha takes a Neo-Soul approach that suites the musical backings of the single. She serves sultry flows that aren’t entirely too complicated & are very catchy. Her vocal delivery is smooth & sounds great layered on top of each at certain points. She reminds me of Lauryn Hill at times, as her smooth & angelic approach sees her gliding/riding the instrumental effortlessly. Thematically, we get a peek into the mind of someone ready for a romantic encounter eagerly full of sexual ideation/imagination.

She gets pretty creative lyrically & finds ways to paint steamy/seductive imagery without being completely direct/vulgar. However, these lust-filled lyrics still come across as mature & romantic. Dreamlife puts together a quality instrumental for Toy Taha to deliver her beautiful vocals over. It’s smooth & powerful with very punchy drum/percussion samples. Specifically, the percussion elements add tons of subtle rhythms to an already groovy drum pattern. There are elements from R&B, Neo-Soul, Hip-Hop, Jazz, etc. that are all present in the instrumentation of “Suite EFX”.

Overall:

This Toy Taha single is top notch & a great example of quality R&B. Between the luscious instrumental palette & creative songwriting, it’s an easy recommendation for any fan of the genre. I could easily hear this on many different playlists or platforms based on the quality alone. It’ll be exciting to see where she decides to go next with her career & immense potential. Thank you for reading, and enjoy Toy Taha’s new single below.
