Lucki’s Been On An Impressive 2 Year Run

Intro:

Watching the rise of Lucki has been an incredible witness. I remember the first time I heard him was in 2014 on his song Stevie Wonder featuring fellow Chicago artist Chance The Rapper. Lucki was making waves in the underground at this time and remained as one of the few underground kings until 2019. Ever since dropping his critically acclaimed album Freewave 3 that February, Lucki has been on an upward momentum & has escaped the “underground” label. Let’s take a closer look at his 4-project run that’s propelled him throughout the past 2 years.

This project marked the start of this impressive run & is Lucki’s most beloved project by his audience. Freewave 3 dropped on February 15th, 2019. Similar to most of his discography, the project tackles themes of heartbreak, drug addiction, and much more. It’s the Lucki project that introduced many new fans into his dark & intriguing world.

His drug-induced delivery mixed with catchy flows & psychedelic beats makes for a great listen. It’s one of my favorite albums, and still has some of his most mainstream tracks to date. This was Lucki’s first step into rising mainstream stardom.

Things didn’t end in 2019 after dropping Freewave 3. Lucki followed up by releasing Days B4 III on October 25th of that year. This project felt like Lucki’s victory lap to close out a standout year of his career. While following similar themes of his previous work & showcasing the same style of delivery, this project features more accessible tracks too.

Songs like “Go Awayare perfect to play around those who are looking for a hard banger & are easy for newer listeners to attach to. He even plays around with heavy autotune on this project & pulls it off very well. Overall, the slightly less depressing tone of this project boosted Lucki’s commercial fanbase even more.

In 2020, he released Almost There as a project to hold fans over until his highly anticipated album “Flawless Like Mewhich was set to drop later that year. Despite not getting that album to release, Almost There was still another treat that fans enjoyed for the rest of the year. The music style we all know & love from Lucki is in full effect, but with even more commercially appealing tracks.

Lucki mastered the ability to maintain his unique drugged-out euphoric sound with catchier songwriting & even harder beats. There are still moments of introspection & darkness that peak through his lyrics, but he sounds very confident here & is self-aware of his rising stardom.

Finally, we have his late 2021 collab album with producer F1lthy. The duo had been teasing this tape all year long, but it has finally arrived to end the year out. Before the release, all of Lucki’s momentum had boiled to a peak. He received cosigns from Drake/OVO, started collaborating with more mainstream artists, and much more. It’s still early, but it’s looking like WAKE UP LUCKI has the potential of being his most successful project to date.

Interestingly, the album showcases that Lucki truly understands his core audience & what they like from him. While still boasting about his success & money, this is the most he’s talked about love & heartbreak since Freewave 3. The instrumentals are also very mainstream friendly & fit with Lucki’s clearer delivery/flows. It all comes together for another push into the mainstream.

Overall:

Many could not have predicted the underground king to be moving at this pace towards true mainstream success. The man has been rapping long enough to be considered a veteran, and he’s getting all the praise he deserves now. If he keeps making the right steps & dropping quality releases, he’s bound to be a regular name in the industry for many casual listeners. There aren’t too many fanbases as strong & supportive as his. Thank you all for reading, and watch Lucki’s latest music video linked below.
