Let Me Breathe - Kalab King

Intro:

Today’s post features the rapper Kalab King. He’s pretty new to the music scene, and today I’ll be reviewing his first official single. There were many personal experiences that entered Kalab’s life, and ultimately led to him taking a break from music altogether. Almost a year later, he’s triumphed over these battles & began to make music using his own acquired equipment: microphone, FL Studio, etc. With that being said, let’s get started with the review of his brand new single.

Summary:

One of the first things I noticed was the track’s atmospheric & eery sounds. There’s a dark bell heard subtly in the mix layered alongside an airy pad sound. In addition, the fast hi-hat hits & a bouncy 808 drum pattern fit well together with these sounds. The repetitive loop of the beat even adds to the trance-like aesthetic. His voice is high enough to where it doesn’t interfere with any of the beat’s lower frequencies, while also not being annoying/whiny. The effect he uses on his vocals for the chorus help it standout from his 2 verses (on top of also being more melodic than his verses).

As far as his rapping, the lyrics here are solid and full of dope rhyme schemes. He has a very fast flow that is still audible & understandable for the listener. He’s also pretty good at switching flows smoothly; which helps keep the song interesting. Theme wise, it appears as him venting out his thoughts & frustrations such as: battling his mind, troublesome women & enemies/doubters coming at him. It also is evident that he struggles with being stuck in the past, but is trying to change his ways.

“I wanna fly, but I been too afraid to change”

Overall:

This song is equally good from a rapping standpoint, and also as an introspective piece of work. You can enjoy the song as is, or truly appreciate to the relatable lyrics/personal expression. I’d recommend this song for anyone that needs music for their Halloween playlists, due to spooky soundscape that the instrumental creates. We hope that Kalab continues to deliver quality rhymes on his next single when the time comes. Thank you for reading, and enjoy Kalab King’s new single below.
