Intro:

Today’s post features the Haitian-American singer-songwriter Marlounsly from Florida. She has been gaining attention from countless other media outlets such as: MTV, ELEVATOR Magazine, HotNewHipHop, Miami New Times, and The Palm Beach Post. Marlounsly has opened up for acts such as Ella Mai, H.E.R and Summer Walker at major music festivals and tours. She’s returns this year with a new single titled, "I Am." I was very excited to give things R&B track a listen.

Summary:

I Am tells a powerful message about knowing your self worth & healing/moving on from toxic situations of the past. She details an ex-partner trying to persuade Marlounsly into getting back with them, but she’s not falling for any of the charades. This person is pictured to the audience as someone that’s not worth having in her new life. I give credit to the forward & confident songwriting on I am, as the lyrics are empowering, inspiring & uplifting (among just being relatable in general).

The tone of her voice fits the instrumentation perfectly. She does a great job at staying in tune & not falling flat vocally. Her background vocals are also mixed very well & sit comfortably among the rest of the mix. It all comes together for a very catchy single to start the spring off with.

This Pop/R&B jam was produced by 1040. One of the first things I noticed was how high quality the audio was (compared to other songs that get submitted to me). The watery & luscious pianos provide the bulk of the instrumental, and these add strong support to her already clean & beautiful vocals. There’s also some West Coast influence I picked up on from the drum patterns (specifically the kicks) & a very DJ Mustard-like clap sound.

Overall:

Marlounsly has come through with a potential R&B hit for the Spring/Summer seasons. It’s perfect for many contemporary settings & fits the current sound/market of the genre. She has a pair of visuals coming soon for "I Am" and a ton of releases planned for the year. It was a pleasure listening to & reviewing this new single. Thank you for reading, and enjoy Marlounsly’s new single below.
