Intro:

Brent Faiyaz has been one of 2020’s hugest success stories in the current climate of the music industry. Hailing from Maryland, Brent started releasing music on the internet as early as 2013/2014. Most of us heard him for the first time on the chorus of Goldlink’s hit single: Crew. This week him & Tyler, the Creator decided to bless their fans with this new single of theirs. Let’s see if the track lives up to its expectations.

Summary:

Brent is speaking about a woman who he is sure about not committing to. She holds him down in many ways (like gravitiy) & there seems to be an established “situationship” between the two. He sings about how he isn’t necessarily over the woman, but being her boyfriend is too much for him right now. Brent even goes as far as saying, “I had my fair share of women, feelings don't catch me now”. Noticeably, both Brent & Tyler give pretty solid rap verses. Tyler doesn’t appear on the single for too long, but he enters the track very smoothly with the “spacey” lines:

Yeah, see, I'm a star, look at me from afar/
Hard to be down to Earth, when you nestin' on Mars/
You comet on how I move, too much space to assume

As far as vocal delivery/range, both Tyler & Brent tend to keep it pretty standard. Brent sounds as angelic & reverbed as us fans love to hear him. The deep pitched vocals in the background of his verses & chorus add a lot of depth/detail to the rest of the track’s sounds. DJ Dahi meets both artists in the middle of their individual styles. The guitars all over the instrumental are very dreamy & give off bright summer vibes. Drums are very limited & there’s a kick hitting on every beat of the pattern (which does get slightly old after some time). In addition to the instrumentation, the beat is trance inducing & very atmospheric

Overall:

Both artists continue to show why both critics & fans adore each artist. DJ Dahi also does a great job at making the collaboration sound very natural & not forced in anyway. There aren’t any real negative takeaways I left this song with after each listen. Since they do have a decent relationship with each other, let’s hope that this means even more collaborations in the future.
