3 Reasons Why Yeat Is Getting More Mainstream

Intro:

Yeat was an unknown artist only 2 years ago from the time of this being written. The Portland-raised MC is quickly bubbling out of the underground scene and is slowly taking over. He’s successfully transitioned from having a primarily TikTok-based audience to now having a cult-like following. Now, Yeat is even reintroducing certain styles & slang into the culture. Let’s really see the main 3 reasons he’s been getting more mainstream below.

Unique Vocal Delivery Style

One of the main aspects of Yeat’s style that draws audiences is his wildly bizarre vocal deliveries. He rides most beats very smoothly & easily while delivering his lyrics in an exaggerated & barbaric way. That mixed with the way autotune works so well with his vocals is a recipe for catchy music. It’s clear that his vocal style is influenced by artists such as Future, Young Thug, Playboi Carti, etc. Even with that being said, he still makes those influences unique to himself.

Excellent Beat Selection

Yeat excels over the heavily synthesized “rage” beats that have been dominating the underground (and making their way into mainstream music). There’s the infamous bell sample used in one of his biggest songs Gët Busy. It’s now become a staple on most of his songs but doesn’t feel forced or overdone at all yet. He has tons of music that sound great in a party setting, but I think the beats he picks work well in the car & under the influence.

It’s clearly not difficult for him to sound well with mainstream rappers over these beats too; after hearing songs with Gunna & Young Thug on his new album 2 Alivë.

Highly Valuable Recognition/Co-Signs

As mentioned above, Yeat has already started working with highly recognizable mainstream stars like Young Thug & Gunna. Several other industry rappers have cosigned the Yeat take over. Interestingly, Drake has taken a liking to Yeat’s style & they’ve even been seen hanging out together. This is obviously a tremendous cosign that doesn’t need to be explained further. Additionally, even Earl Sweatshirt has shared that he likes Yeat’s work in a recent interview.

Overall:

I think he’s one of the more interesting & unique artists coming out of the new underground scene. He pulls from his influences in his own way that’s hard to deny. I can’t predict him to be the greatest artist alive or someone that consistently drops groundbreaking music, but he’s taking certain elements of Trap into new directions. It’s not hard to see why he’s becoming so popular so fast, while still maintaining a strong & loyal fanbase. Thank you all for reading, and enjoy the Yeat songs listed above.
