Meet Proklaim

Me: Greetings! How did this all get started making music?

Proklaim: A love for writing rhymes that evolved into a passion for songwriting. I find it exhilarating and remain continually fascinated with exploring new styles and sounds.

How would you describe your style musically? Has your sound changed at all?

I believe the hip-hop I make and continuously aim to do so is progressive. I try to strive to be able to be adept at interpreting and creating every style of hip-hop while exploring ranges and sounds that I have not yet been explored within the genre by using sounds from other genres.

I can definitely hear that in your work. Have your friends and family supported your music at all along the way?

My siblings have followed my evolution and my brother particularly, who is an accomplished guitar player and singer, has been vocal in his encouragement to me for what I create.

Throughout the years, who have been some of your favorite artists?

I have liked music from childhood and a broad pallet of musicians excited me when I heard their songs as a kid: Prince, Nirvana, Nas, Tupac, Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill Michael Jackson, Jay Z, Bug Punisher, kool and the Gang…Beegees..there’s too many …

Interesting! Who are some artists you would like to work with around your area?

I’d like to work with artists in the region like Burnaboy.

Where does your stage name originate from? Have you ever changed your name?

I used to go by the Name Kult Status when I first started rapping but later changed it to Proklaim which I think is symbolic of what it is I do with the art I create.

Do you remember the first song you've ever made? If so, what was it like & how does it compare to your latest?

I do. It never had a name though. Listening to early songs that I laid down consistently reminds me of how powerful consistently sticking to something can shock you as you evolve. The growth I notice always shocks me…a reminder that sticking to something yields growth/evolution.

If you could describe your music in ONE word to someone who's never listened before?

Progressive or Message-infused

What are some other talents & hobbies outside of music that some may not know about you?

I like fitness and take diligent time to try to keep in condition as I believe it is a great asset to be able to do so many other things. I also like soccer.

What does a world without music look like in your imagination?

I am absolutely certain music was ordained as a vessel for man to elevate his thinking …a world without music would be one that lacked colour.

Is there any advice you would give to someone who’s thinking about getting into music?

Remain true to the inner intuition and promptings in yourself..if while creating music you lose track of time, then it is something you’re meant to be doing.

Any future plans for your career? Additionally, who is an artist/producer you dream of collaborating with?

I’d love to continue to showcase that there is an untapped potential lying dormant in hip-hop and it is in truth the most explosive and potent tool for impacting societies in this and generations to come. I’d love to work with Scott Storch and Dr Dre and Lauryn Hill And Nas
