Meet leek

Me: What initially inspired you all to start making music?

The band: We have always had a lot on our minds musically and lyrically, and the messages are delivered in the form of sensitive and alternative pop-bangers that we strive to deliver, every time we make music.

How would you describe your sound & style as a band over the years?

Groovy indie landscapes, where dreamy synth surfaces, rocking guitar, and seductive pop vocals reside. A place that oozes good times and late-night hours and where you ain't afraid to grapple with the big emotions.

Nice! Do you remember the first song you guys ever made together? What was that experience like?

Yeah, it was Jonas and Fred on a hiking trip with a guitar on the back. We wrote the lyrics and melodies over the course of our trip in our tents with our sore leg muscles. We actually still play a version of it live that fits quite close to the original. Maybe we'll record it someday! Usually, we change a lot from the demo until the final product. A process most of our songs actually have been through.

How did you guys come up with “leeek” as the official group name?

It originates from the ground. Literally from the earth. It's a leek. With an extra E. What more is there to say? We have not yet changed it. Perhaps someday.

That’s actually pretty cool! Now, who are some of your favorite artists/producers/engineers to work with currently?

The sound wizard behind the musical style is our dear bassist and producer, Eikie. Our favorite collaborator is definitely Rune Lak, who has mastered all of our songs so far.

In a perfect world, what does a perfect studio or recording session look like in your imagination?

Eikie's making a beat, Fred is rocking the microphone, and the song structure is being written. When it has taken form, we hit the road and record tracks in a house out in the country, with guitar amps, drums, and recording equipment. And drink beers in between. A lot of beers.

That sounds like the perfect vibe for your style of music! Besides music, what are some talents & hobbies that others may not know about you?

A big part of our band is our deep friendship, which goes back many years. We do a lot of outside hobbies besides the band, such as playing DnD, gaming, exercising, and so forth.

What's been the most difficult part of your journey in music?

The anticipation of releasing songs and waiting to play next gig.

Patience really is one of the best skills, but also one of the hardest in this industry. Is there any advice you would give to someone who is thinking about getting into music today?

Do it! And start recording. Like right now. Even though it doesn't sound like you want it to yet, it's all part of the process. Don't hold back - go for that gut feeling.

And finally, do you have any upcoming plans or releases you’d like to share with the fans?

We plan to record and release a second EP and who knows, maybe we'll be working on an album!

Some Words From The Band About The “Phase One” EP:

We are a 100% DIY band, who are recording, producing, and releasing our music without any major label behind us. We just released our first EP and here’s some info about it:

”Phase One” is an in-depth exploration of complex emotions about love, friendship, and conflict. It stretches over 5 songs, which tell of love fascinations, personality manipulations and deeply diminishing remorse.

”Lost” is a profound and emotional song that depicts the intense attraction to another person, but also the potential dangers of this admiration.

”Time’s Up” is about the consequences of irresponsible actions and lies in a relationship and warns against toxic relationships and the need for honesty.

”Call You” depicts a deep and meaningful connection to another person, and the need to express gratitude towards one another during difficult times.

”Poison” describes a conflict-filled relationship characterized by manipulation that leads to distancing, conflict and misunderstandings.

”Runaway” is about the struggle of staying or fleeing from a love relationship marked by emptiness or misunderstanding between the parties. The person who you follow through the phases described in the songs has finally decided to escape from their current situation, leaving the listener with a sense of security and rounding out the EP’s storytelling.

Overall, “Phase One” is a touching journey through complex emotions of love, friendship, and conflict — the fundamental theme of leeek’s musical expression in this first phase of their career.
