Meet Chill Wizard

Me: How did you first get introduced to making music? What led you to a career in the music industry?

Wizard: The realization at 20 years old that making a great track wasn't impossible, thanks to home studios, sequencers, and a little talent.

It’s amazing how much modern music technology can do! How would you describe your sound as it’s evolved over the years?

A blend of Soul, Surf, Hip-hop, R&B, and Psych. My sound changes every 6 months. It is getting more ethereal and vast.

Do you remember the first song you've ever made? If so, what was it like?

Yes it was a Bossa Nova. Guitars and vocals. It was way dirtier and drier and shorter compared to what I do today.

Where does your stage name originate from? Have you ever changed your name?

I saw an email from a friend of mine posting a job offer looking for a composed and calm audio technician, that he called "Chill Wizard." I loved the name. I love the Middle Ages. I'm already older. I aim at chillness. I used "Sunshine Boy" on a different project.

That’s a pretty neat story! Who are some of your favorite artists/producers?

Just Blaze, J Dilla, George Michael, Daft Punk, The Neptunes, Brian Wilson, Debussy, Birds songs, and Nature sounds.

In a perfect world, what does a perfect studio or recording session look like in your imagination?

Where everything comes out naturally, effortlessly and we feel in awe and in love. It's like living and witnessing a miracle.

Outside of music, what are some talents & hobbies that others may not know about you?

I'm a scientist and a great video technician! I know how to make the most delicious tapas.

What's been the most difficult part of your journey in music?

The indifference and the rejection. But I have a trove of sufferings.

On that note, is there any advice you would give to someone who is thinking about getting into music today?

Is that what you are ready to suffer for? Is this what you have inside you that wakes you up at night? Is it for your self-glorification or for the love of mankind? These are questions I ask myself sometimes to see if I can keep on.

I seriously love that answer & the raw honesty you’ve shared with us today! And finally, do you have any upcoming plans or releases you’d like to share with the fans?

Yes! My album "Shack of Sorrows" out December 13th!
